The first spy shots of the BMW 2 series convertible have surfaced thanks to the guys at PassionDriving. The car which will play upon the success of the 1 series range will take models such as the coupe and convertible from its baby brother and place them in their own range.
BMW have seen unprecedented success with the 1 series in previous years and the manufacturer war with Mercedes and Audi is stepping up in this sector due to this. All manufacturers seem to be bent on increasing their lower ranges as the demand for sporty and efficient models gets greater.
The BMW 2 series shown here in camouflage has the updated lights up front and rear as well as a fabric roof. It is believed that the hard top convertible mechanism will stay exclusive to the Z4, which itself may see a baby Z2 or Z3 remake in coming years. It will no doubt come with a broad engine range from the 114i, 116i and 118d, and possibly in coming months/years we may see a 3.5 M sport range depending on range. Of course in true Bavarian fashion the car will be rear wheel drive, but possibly an xDrive may be featured.
We’ve covered the story of the 3 series coupe getting upgraded to the 4 series here, which proves that BMW is really trying to expand their own range. See more pictures of the spied 4 series interior here
